{"id":153,"date":"2010-06-04T14:41:16","date_gmt":"2010-06-04T21:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ac.bslw.com\/community\/blog\/?p=153"},"modified":"2010-06-04T14:41:16","modified_gmt":"2010-06-04T21:41:16","slug":"final-countdown-to-rda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ac.bslw.com\/community\/blog\/2010\/06\/final-countdown-to-rda\/","title":{"rendered":"Final Countdown to RDA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, June is here, and we\u2019re counting down to the launch of RDA (Resource Description and Access).\u00a0 The launch date is set for the middle of the month (we\u2019re keeping our fingers crossed) but I don\u2019t believe there is an exact date set.\u00a0 What is actually being launched is the RDA Toolkit.\u00a0 This is the online access to the new rules.\u00a0 In the words of the publishers:\u00a0 \u201cThe resource to help you navigate from AACR2 to RDA\u2014the new, unified standard for resource description and access, designed for the digital world and an expanding universe of metadata users.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Toolkit will be available by subscription, but to help ease the transition, the publishers are offering a complimentary open-access period from the launch date of mid-June to August 31, 2010.\u00a0 You can sign up here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rdatoolkit.org\/openaccess\">http:\/\/www.rdatoolkit.org\/openaccess<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And to help you get started, the publishers have also provided a guided tour of the Toolkit and a list of other training events.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the link:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rdatoolkit.org\/training\">http:\/\/www.rdatoolkit.org\/training<\/a> &#8211; scroll down to find the guided tour.\u00a0 You\u2019ll need Adobe Flash Player, but they provide the link for a free download.<\/p>\n<p>And now, for something really different.\u00a0 For all of you anticipating the arrival of RDA with acute trepidation, (and even those of you looking forward to it with excitement) I\u2019ve found a way to ease the pain.\u00a0 Let me introduce you to the \u201cResource Description and Access Happy Fun Time Companion\u201d from Penny Baker and the folks at the Clark Art Institute Library.\u00a0 (CAI is one of the US Testing Partners.)\u00a0 I think this site is the most fun to be had with RDA, but don\u2019t let the title or its looks fool you.\u00a0 Along with the craziness, this site is chock full of serious and valuable information about all things RDA, FRBR, training, new MARC fields, examples, etc.\u00a0 I was trying to compile a new list of RDA related links, but this site has them all.
