The National RDA Test has been completed and the evaluation period is underway.\u00a0 Library communities, and others, wait for the decision to be made by the National Libraries.\u00a0 Will the decision be ready by this summer\u2019s ALA Annual as hoped, or not?<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, we offer a new and improved, updated, annotated, RDA links list to provide excellent resources in the quest to understand RDA and the models behind it.\u00a0 This is not an all encompassing list by any means.\u00a0 Please feel free to share other links you know of.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/pcc\/PCC-Post-RDA-Test.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/pcc\/PCC-Post-RDA-Test.html<\/a> &#8211; The PCC\/LC guidelines for using and creating authority records in both AACR2 and RDA now that the national test is finished.\u00a0 This is a good site to keep an eye on, as the document has already been updated, and should be again as changes are made.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/pcc\/RDA-PCC.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/pcc\/RDA-PCC.html<\/a> &#8211; The Program for Cooperative Cataloging\u2019s page for RDA links.\u00a0 Lots of good stuff here that\u2019s not just for PCC members. The above link is found here as well as many others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rda-jsc.org\/rda.html\">http:\/\/www.rda-jsc.org\/rda.html<\/a> &#8211; Official site for the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA.\u00a0 This site has all the information related to the development of RDA.\u00a0 There are links to drafts, historical documents, presentations, discussion lists, and ongoing activities to mention just a few.\u00a0 The FAQ\u2019s are especially helpful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rdatoolkit.org\/\">http:\/\/www.rdatoolkit.org\/<\/a> &#8211; the RDA Toolkit information website.\u00a0 It has a link to access the RDA Online Tool, but you have to have subscription to use that.\u00a0 This site has subscription information, FAQ\u2019s and contact information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/cpso\/rdawebcasts.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/cpso\/rdawebcasts.html<\/a> &#8211; These are excellent presentations by one of the foremost experts on RDA &#8211; Dr. Barbara Tillett of LC.\u00a0 You can download the needed player from the website.\u00a0 Each lists the running time.\u00a0 One is in Spanish.\u00a0 There could be more listed here in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/codlinandshort\/\">http:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/codlinandshort\/<\/a> &#8211; RDA got you down?\u00a0 Then visit the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">RDA Happy Fun Time Companion<\/span>.\u00a0 This fun site from Penny Baker and the folks at the Clark Art Institute Library will cheer you right up.\u00a0 Amid all the hilarity there is lots of really valuable information \u2013 detailed explanations, specific examples, and lots of links to more.\u00a0 Try it, you\u2019ll like it!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/aschiff\/BCLAPresentationWithNotes-RevAug2010.pdf\">http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/aschiff\/BCLAPresentationWithNotes-RevAug2010.pdf<\/a> &#8211; \u201cChanges from AACR2 to RDA: A Comparison of Examples\u201d This presentation from Adam Schiff\u00a0 is one of the best resources out there for understanding the differences between AACR2 and RDA.\u00a0 This version has notes with it that make it even more clear and understandable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/pcc\/PCC_ParticipantsMeeting_Minutes_11m.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/pcc\/PCC_ParticipantsMeeting_Minutes_11m.html<\/a> &#8211; This is the summary of the \u201cUS RDA Test Participant\u2019s Panel Discussion\u201d held at ALA Midwinter 2011.\u00a0 Panelists responded to several questions about their experiences including their approach to RDA and how they trained personnel for the test, creating authority records, using non-MARC coding schemes,\u00a0 and overall lessons learned.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tsig.wikispaces.com\/Pre-conference+2010\">http:\/\/tsig.wikispaces.com\/Pre-conference+2010<\/a> \u2013 This site has links to the slides of presentations given at the &#8220;Shaping Tomorrow&#8217;s Metadata with RDA Pre-conference&#8221; from the Canadian Library Association Conference (CLA), June 2, 2010.\u00a0 They are all very good.\u00a0 I would point out the one from Pat Riva from the Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives Nationales du Qu\u00e9bec on \u201cIFLA&#8217;s Conceptual Models and RDA (or, What you need to know about FRBR and FRAD when reading RDA)\u201d which also includes an introduction to FRSAD.\u00a0\u00a0 The link is below.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/tsig.wikispaces.com\/file\/view\/RivaFRBRFRADFRSADforCLA2010.ppt\">http:\/\/tsig.wikispaces.com\/file\/view\/RivaFRBRFRADFRSADforCLA2010.ppt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alcts.ala.org\/crgwiki\/images\/1\/10\/RDA_CLA_Presentation.pdf\">http:\/\/alcts.ala.org\/crgwiki\/images\/1\/10\/RDA_CLA_Presentation.pdf<\/a> &#8211; \u201c&#8230;Help! The New Cataloging Code is Coming!\u201d This presentation from the California Library Association annual conference in Nov. 2009 may be a little older, but it has good, clear background information.\u00a0 The section of Changes between AACR2 and RDA is very good, showing how the RDA data elements fit into Marc records and giving good examples.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/marc\/development.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/marc\/development.html<\/a> &#8211; This is the MARC Standards Development site.\u00a0 Here are copies of past and present Proposals and Discussion Papers for changes to the MARC format.\u00a0 Just click on MARC Proposals or MARC Discussion Papers.\u00a0 They are arranged by year, most recent first.\u00a0 Most of them in the last few years have dealt with RDA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/marc\/RDAinMARC29.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/marc\/RDAinMARC29.html<\/a> &#8211; This is where to find what is new in MARC for RDA.\u00a0 This link from the MARC Standards home page doesn\u2019t just list the changes made to the MARC format to accommodate RDA, it provides links to the information about them.\u00a0 Changes still under discussion (since the last MARBI meeting at ALA) are marked with links to the appropriate Discussion Paper or Proposal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/metadataregistry.org\/rdabrowse.htm\">http:\/\/metadataregistry.org\/rdabrowse.htm<\/a> &#8211; IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) site for Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/today\/cyberlc\/feature_wdesc.php?rec=4554\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/today\/cyberlc\/feature_wdesc.php?rec=4554<\/a> \u2013 this presentation on FRBR from Barbara Tillett was given for non-catalogers.\u00a0 It is a good overview that repeats a little of the stuff in the LC webcasts, but it talks about practical applications.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/frbr.slis.kent.edu\/\">http:\/\/frbr.slis.kent.edu\/<\/a> &#8211; This site provides information about Kent State\u2019s School of Library and Information Science FRBR Project.\u00a0 This is a four-year project on research and development of FRBR-based retrieval systems.\u00a0 There are also links to other FRBR related resources.\u00a0 Be sure to check out the presentations to see what the project has accomplished.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifla.org\/publications\/functional-requirements-for-authority-data\">http:\/\/www.ifla.org\/publications\/functional-requirements-for-authority-data<\/a> &#8211;
