{"id":260,"date":"2011-03-15T12:49:49","date_gmt":"2011-03-15T19:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ac.bslw.com\/community\/blog\/?p=260"},"modified":"2011-03-15T12:49:49","modified_gmt":"2011-03-15T19:49:49","slug":"lc-genreform-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ac.bslw.com\/community\/blog\/2011\/03\/lc-genreform-records\/","title":{"rendered":"LC Genre\/Form Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have received several inquiries about how we will be handling the new LC Genre\/form records (lcgft)\u00a0\u00a0 and 655 headings in bibliographic records.<\/p>\n<p>Our default policy will be to follow the LC\/PCC guidelines.\u00a0 These can be found on the LC Policy and Standards Division Genre\/form web page:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/cpso\/genreformgeneral.html\">http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/catdir\/cpso\/genreformgeneral.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is what this means for Backstage Authority Control.<\/p>\n<p>655 headings in bibliographic records with 2<sup>nd<\/sup> indicator 7 and $2lcgft will be matched against the LCGFT file.\u00a0 If a match is found, the heading will be corrected if needed (if it matched on a 4xx in the authority record).\u00a0 If no match is found, the heading will be reported on the Unmatched Genre\/form heading report.<\/p>\n<p>655 headings in bibliographic records with a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> indicator 0 will first be matched against the LCGFT file.\u00a0 If a match is found, the heading will be corrected if needed (if it matched on a 4xx in the authority record), the second indicator will be changed to 7 and a $2lcgft will be added to the end of the field.\u00a0 Those headings that are not matched in the LCGFT will then be matched against the LCSH file.\u00a0 If matched here, the heading will be corrected if needed and the indicators will remain unchanged.\u00a0 \u00a0Headings that are not matched in either file will be reported on the Unmatched Genre\/form heading report.<\/p>\n<p>Both LCGFT and LCSH authority records for matched headings will be delivered unless otherwise specified.\u00a0 LCGFT records will be identified by the lccn prefix \u2018gf\u2019.\u00a0 Also 008\/11 will be coded <strong>\u2018z\u2019<\/strong> (Other) and the 040 will have $flcgft added.<\/p>\n<p>655 headings with other 2<sup>nd<\/sup> indicator and $2 subfield values will be processed as they are currently per client profile.<\/p>\n<p>We are exploring other possible options at this time.\u00a0 We will welcome any feedback or suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have received several inquiries about how we will be handling the new LC Genre\/form records (lcgft)\u00a0\u00a0 and 655 headings in bibliographic records.
