Dedupe 2.5: Group 1 - 008 Position 23 (Verify)
008 position 23 -- Form of item
This fixed field position indicates the form of the catalogued item. It can include:

Choosing to verify on the 008 position 23 allows for stricter matching parameters, especially in cases where the collection contains large print and electronic data.

In this example, most of the key fields (100, 245, 260) all match exactly. However, both the 008[23] and 300 $a & $c differ. Backstage strongly recommends against including the 300 $a or $c in any verification, as the discrepancies between records may potentially rule out many valid matches. With the 008[23], though, this is a potentially good value to consider in order to specifically not attempt false-positive matches between regular and large print type records.
